GUIDELINES FOR COVID-19 PREVENTION WHILE WORKING IN THE LAB  

Social Distancing:

  1. There should not be more than 3 students on each table. When possible, spread out to more tables. 
  2. Not more than 15 students would be allowed at any point in time. 
  3. Do not share your instruments with others. Keep only those instruments and consumables on the table with you which you need to conduct the experiment. Keep them in the tray given to you. 
  4. Reduce the number of visits/movements to collect the material. Take all the material that you need for your experiment in the beginning. 
  5. Do not crowd common places like hand-wash, incubator, weighing machines, microscopes, laminar flow chambers, fume hoods, etc. Do not move microscopes. 

Masking:

  1. Wash your hands before putting masks and gloves. 
  2. Wear mask, preferably N95, all the time while you are in the lab. 
  3. Wear gloves all the time you are in the lab. If you are wearing disposable gloves, please discard them in the dustbin after the use. 
  4. Do not touch your face, eyes, nose while removing or wearing masks. Handle masks only by loop or strings. 
  5. Use a freshly washed mask every time you visit lab. 
  6. Wash your hand immediately after taking out masks and gloves. 
  7. If you need one, you can bring your own face shield. Please keep all your supplies in your carry bag. 

Handwash:

  1. Wash your hands with soap upon entering and before leaving the lab. 
  2. Do not touch surfaces, devices without wearing gloves. If you are not wearing gloves, then wash your hands after touching commonly shared devices. 
  3. Wear eye protection devices where needed. After the use, please use 70% ethanol solution to wipe them clean. Leave them in the tray after cleaning. 

General:

    1. Stop, think, attest – perform daily attestations of wellness. 
    2. Never come to work at a laboratory or research facility if you are experiencing any symptoms of infection. In particular, no one should come to work if they are beginning to experience any of the following symptoms: 
      1. Fever 
      2. Cough 
      3. Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing 
      4. Respiratory symptoms 
    3. If you come to work and start showing any possible symptoms of illness, you must leave the lab and inform 
    4. If you have had close contact with anyone who is COVID-19 positive (e.g., household member), stay home for 14 days to monitor symptoms. 
    5. Consider footwear as a possible transmission medium. You should have a pair of shoes that you use for external use including working in a laboratory/facility that you do not wear into your place of residence. 
    6. Clothing worn in the lab should be immediately removed upon return to your residence. 
    7. Be present in the lab only as long as necessary for your experiment. Minimize time around other people. 
    8. Assume everyone you see is infected, including yourself, and use appropriate precautions, including not touching your face and washing your hands often. Some transmission occurs from people with no symptoms.
    9. Considering bringing your own water bottles and eatables from your home. 
    10. Gowns or aprons are recommended to protect personal clothing. You can bring one of yours.  It can be any old oversize T-shirt, apron or shirt. Wash it after used at home. 

 

  • ALL THE STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE WRITTEN PARENTAL CONSENT TO ATTEND THE LAB.
